From Missy Elliot to Bella Hadid: The Pop Culture Evolution of the Dior Logo

Let’s give credit where credit is due, shall we? The pop culture powerhouses of the late ’90s and early aughts were responsible for igniting the mass’s obsession with logos, none more so than the one belonging to the house of Christian Dior. Sarah Jessica Parker wore the Fall 2000 logo-print Dior newspaper dress on Sex and the City, and musicians like Missy Elliot and Gwen Stefani often rocked the Dior Rasta collection of 2005. When Mariah Carey went skiing in a baby pink Dior puffer, she turned logomania into a literal sport.
Fast-forward to 2017 and Dior creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri is reigniting both the industry and the public’s fascination with the CD monogram. For Springand Fall 2017, Chiuri sent out reworked logos on kitten heels, bustier dresses, and high-waisted briefs. She’s also created her own version of the “J’Adore Dior” tee and added new hardware to the old ’90s-era Dior monogram bags. Probably not coincidentally, Kim Kardashian West took to the beach a couple of weeks ago wearing a throwback Dior Rasta bikini.
Today, Chiuri is set to show her Resort 2018 collection for Dior in Los Angeles. Watch this space for more iterations of the timeless and timely logo
