THE coordinator Success Mandate Academy, Mr. Ken Anoruo, has dissociated himself from those calling for the scrapping of Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, stressing “I do not support scrapping of JAMB” FILE: CANDIDATES WRITING UTME He made this call during the donation of food materials to the Citadel of Grace Orphanage, located at Igando area of Lagos State as part of sent forth party activities for Success Mandate Academy students. Anoruo who is also a lawyer lauded JAMB for the conduct of the recently concluded mock examination suggesting that there should be a yardstick for registration of proper examination. He said that the board only needs to change some of their policies, like that of registration. He said, “Lot of things went wrong, some students spent weeks before they were able to register. With this kind of population, you don’t contract registration process to few people. Nigerians want things done in easy way. “Why not allow everybody to buy their form where they want and register easily. It is computer based examination, knowledge of the student in computer should start from registration process, they should be able to register themselves. “Mock should be a yardstick for registration of proper examination. It should be in away that students that pass the mock will qualify for the exam because the way it is now, we no longer use o’ level as a yardstick.” On recommendation of text books in the syllabus, Anoruo suggested that the board should consider text books that fccused on national interest. “We should concentrate on things that will develop the nation. They should recommend text books on cultural values, our national unity, integration, the books that have to do with government policy. Some students do not know why they go for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). They need to know how we foster our unity in this nation not books that talk about how somebody fell in love.” He posited that examination brochure should not be produced after registration “JAMB has to change their method, creates a platform for subject combination. Lot of students did not know subject combination. They should accredit Tutorial Centers and work as partners in progress. The Board should go back to the old way of writing JAMB exam twice a year.” Meanwhile, he admonished Federal government to convert Polytechnics to University of Technology, and College of Education to University of Education in order to eliminate the discrimination between them. Also speaking at the event, the Assistant coordinator, Barrister Evans Ufeli charged the students to develop their inner faculty, read their books and prepared well for their examination. He therefore called on the Federal Government to invest more on the education
