Anambra students stand on the fact ""There must be credible and fair election come November 18th.
Sequel to the threat by Indegenous people of Biafra to boycott the November 18 gubernatorial election in Anambra State, the National Union of Anambra State Students (NUASS), Nationwide, have insisted otherwise that election must be held in the state. They said they are people that would determine their future and not the IPOB.
Speaking, the National President of NUASS, Comrade Godwin Echegwo explained that what led to the peaceful protest was to assure the masses that election must be held in Anambra State and that people should disregard the threat of IPOB.
Echegwo noted that NUASS as a mother body, have reached unanimous decision that the election must be free, fair and credible.
“We have been sensitising people and the aspirants that the election should not be on a platform of do or die affair. He further said,as a body, we have over 20,000 registered voters ready to cast their votes and we would ensure that there is peace and no students is bought over by some of the politicians who are desperate for power.
“It is high time we took the decision of who pilot our affair by electing a competent leader. Our education sector has been sidelined in the past and that is why, we have rose up to say, enough is enough.
Engr. Kenechukwu Ugochukwu Onwunzo representing the gubernatorial candidate of P.P.A Mr Godwin Ezeemo, expressed his happiness over the move by the NUASS, noting that for youths to have conceived such an idea, means that they are ready to take their destinies by their hands.
Onwunzo urged the students to vote based on individual proficiency rather than on party syndrome.
“The reason we are having problems in our education sector is because we don’t have competent leaders. If the youths will understand they are the greatest stakeholders, they will know they have a lot to stake in the state, hence, they have come out to say that there must be an Election.
Advising the students to shun money politics because four years is not four months, and they should not vote any candidate that has done nothing to improve their lives.
